S.P.C.A. Cupcake Fundraiser
On Monday 30th August some of our children will be selling cupcakes at lunchtime. These children are passionate about the cause of animal rights.
The money raised will go to support the S.P.C.A. to care for animals.

Speech Zonal Competition
On Friday 27th August we held the Te Atatu cluster of Schools Speech competition in our school hall. Seven schools participated in the competition - Edmonton Primary, Flanshaw Road School, Rutherford Primary, Peninsula Primary, Freyberg Community School and Tirimoana.
Oscar Richardson-Read from Tirimoana won the competition with his excellent and clever speech about an Opposite World.
Peninsula Primary won 2nd and 3rd places.
It was a very enjoyable event. Our Year 3 poetry performers, a Year 5 speaker and 2 of our Year 4 story-tellers provided entertainment while the judges deliberated.
Judges for the competition were retired Principal of Bruce McLaren Intermediate - Mr David Crickmer, Rangeview Assistant Principal - Mr Gary Wood and Te Atatu Intermediate teacher - Ms Lyn Northwood.
ICAS Testing at School
Thank you to those families that have shown interest in this testing opportunity.All tests have now been completed and the tests have been sent to Australia for marking.
We have now received results in Computer Skills, Science, Spelling and Writing and certificates will be awarded this week for Spelling and Writing tests. Those children who have achieved a credit, distinction or a high distinction in those tests will receive their certificates in assembly.
Thank you to parents and to children for registering and for supporting this programme. Children learn much about test-taking procedures from doing these assessments.
School Speech Contest
On Friday 13th August we held our annual School Speech Contest. Fourteen finalists from Year 5 and Year 6 spoke on a very interesting range of topics.
Oscar Richardson-Read from Room 2, Year 6 won the contest with his very clever speech about An Opposite World. Tayla Harold from Room 14, Year 5 came second with her excellent speech about Native Birds. The third placegetter was Claudia O'Neill from Room 2, Year 6 with her passionate speech about Animal Rights.
After the senior speeches, we were treated firstly to poetry recitals by the Year 3 finalists and then story retelling by the Year 4 finalists.
This early training in public speaking is a strong feature of our school and we are proud of all of our wonderful speakers.
Disco Day
On Friday 20th August we held our annual Disco Day.
The hall was decorated by the teachers at lunchtime.
The junior school disco rocked the hall from 1.45pm until 2.30pm.
Year 3 and Year 4 children had their disco from 3.30pm till 4.30pm.
The senior disco for Year 5 and Year 6 children started at 6pm and finished at 7.30pm.
Everyone had a great time. Thank you to all the teachers for organising the occasion.
PTA Market Days
Every Friday afternoon from 2.00pm the PTA is running a Market outside the school hall.
On Friday 30th July the theme was 'a Mid Winter Christmas' Market Day.There was festive music, Santa Hats and lots of produce to buy. Everyone enjoyed the occasion.
One of the most popular items for regular sale are free range eggs. You can buy half a dozen of these fresh, tasty eggs for $2.50.

Maori Fortnight - Te Mahi Kai
This year we focused on Te Mahi Kai - the Language of Food during our Maori Fortnight.
The Year 6 classes visited Maori Television - in 2 groups over two morning sessions - to learn about the inner workings of a Television Studio and to observe Te Reo Maori being used in a workplace setting. Look under the Events tab for some great photos and info.
On Friday 23rd we held a Kumara and Sausage Sizzle.
Classes learned some Maori Language around the subject of food.
Human Rights Award 2010
Tirimoana School has received an award for our contribution to positive race relations in New Zealand. We were nominated by a member of our community for this award and this is the second time we have received one.
This makes us very proud.
