Tirimoana Orchestra and Choir Evening 2011
We held a celebration evening on Thursday 22nd September in our school
hall that also included our strong and accomplished Choir and for the first time our School Band. It was an
enjoyable evening of song and music to a full and appreciative audience.
Our Gifted and Talented music programme has been very successful this year and has not yet finished. We have a student orchestra that practises together with professional conductor Rod McLeay every Tuesday afternoon during school time during Term 2 and Term 3 in our school hall. Mr McLeay is one of Auckland's most experienced conductors of youth orchestras and bands.
Mrs Patricia House also assists Mr McLeay to bring this orchestra to performance standard.
We have a fantastic group of students who show musical promise and commitment and who play a
range of different instruments. These include violins, flutes, a harp,
a marimba and an ocarina and some children are also accomplished on
piano and keyboard.
The Choir will go on and perform in the A.P.P.A. Concert in the Town Hall in November. Mrs House has been working with the Choir for many weeks.
Mr Charlie Clarke has been taking a group of Year 4,5 and 6 children every Thursday afternoon and working to bring them together into a band. What a delight to hear such accomplished playing and singing. The audience liked the performance so much they asked for an encore.
