Travelwise at Tirimoana

Travelwise Schools  - a link to more information about this important project.

At Tirimoana School we are always working hard to encourage children to walk to school as part of our Enviroschools programme. The number of children who walk or bike to school has steadily increased. There is less congestion on the roads around our school at the beginning and end of a school day. This all adds up to a much safer environment for our children.

There are about 40 Year 6 traffic wardens who operate 3 morning crossings and 4 afternoon crossings around our local school streets. They are on duty in rain or shine.

Every Wednesday children make extra effort to walk or cycle to school. Evnviro group members give children who walk a lucky number every Wednesday. These are drawn for prizes at the end of the day.

Every year our Year 6 children sit a bike licence and receive safety training from Bikewest.

Many children go by Walking School Bus. One of these buses is taken by a teacher who helps children to cross the busy Te Atatu Road and walks them down Fullers Lane as a further safety precaution.

Our afternoon school bus operates a popular route to Glendene. This service is well-supported by the school. A senior staff member travels on the bus every day with the children.
